The Gavel Grill & Speakeasy was founded July of 2016 by Steve and Callie Leasure. Its historical location is across from the courthouse and several law offices on the Murfreesboro, Tennessee town square. This retrofitted restaurant is perfectly tailored for a night out, special celebration or a business luncheon.
We’re proud of our New American dinner staples and simple, quality dishes that need no frills. Steaks, chops, seafood, and seasonal dishes are served in a charming atmosphere. Craft cocktails are made with signature recipes, served speakeasy-style at our impressive bar. Our servers are trained to the highest standard of customer service, providing you with a dining experience both comfortable and relaxing.
What is a speakeasy?
The Prohibition of the 1930s was a time when alcohol was prohibited in the United States. Speakeasies came into prominence as a secret place to buy your booze. These “unlicensed saloons” were “so called from the practice of speaking quietly about such a place in public, or when inside it, so as not to alert the police and neighbors.”
Today, however, a speakeasy is not an illicit establishment. Alcohol is bought, sold, and manufactured freely in the United States again — but the name stuck around. A modern speakeasy, like The Gavel, is a high-end bar with a retro feel, serving up custom-made, craft cocktails to patrons seeking an above average beverage experience.
